The Stony Path to Life


This was in Dover library labeled Emergency Exit, Snowdon. Puzzled, I asked George who used to work at Snowdon. 'This is an Emergency exit?" "Yes " he replied, obviously thinking my question unnecessary

I guess you have to hope there's no rockfall when you need to use the emergency exit-

yes it is an emergency exit or in other words a return airway. i used to get a call at times to clear a fall away to keep air flowing. mine deputy had to travel all airways every shift. test for fire damp, methane gas,black damp,ccarbon "monoxide",with his "davey lamp.RALPH TURNBULL. I worked in all areas of snowdown,1938 1961 ,migrated to australia and still going strong.hope this helps you a bit!!!

So it was a ventilation shaft as well?

You must have been young when you started down Snowdon.
